Who gets holiday pay

  • You must have completed 30 calendar days of employment before the holiday.
  • You must have worked or earned wages (including paid vacation) in the 2 weeks before the holiday.
  • You must have worked your scheduled shifts before and after the holiday (unless the absence was permitted) and reported to work on the holiday if required.
  • These conditions do not apply if you work on the holiday.

How holiday pay is calculated

If you work standard hours, holiday pay is a regular day’s earnings. If you work fewer than standard hours or irregular hours, it is 10% of your wages for the hours worked in the 2-week period before the week of the holiday.

Working on the holiday: If you work the holiday you get 1.5 times your wage for all hours worked plus holiday pay, or your regular rate plus another day off with pay. In a holiday week, overtime starts after 32 hours instead of 40.

When a holiday falls on a weekend or your day off

Yukon’s fact sheet does not set out what happens when a holiday falls on a non-working day; check with Employment Standards for your situation.

In 2026: National Indigenous Peoples Day falls on a Sunday.
